Douglas was born in Glasgow, now lives in Ayrshire, but still writes about his home city. He has been a bank clerk, tax officer, shelf stacker, taxi driver, wine waiter (for two hours), journalist. Having written 11 true crime and history books, he turned to fiction in 2014 with the Davie McCall series – Blood City, Crow Bait and Devil’s Knock and Open Wounds. His latest series features Dominic Queste and is published by Contraband. A half-hour drama he wrote and produced won a Royal Television Society Scottish Centre Award for Best Drama. He has investigated real-life crime for Glasgow solicitors and was involved in a long-running campaign to right a miscarriage of justice.
